Back & Neck Pain
Excellence in treating back & neck pain & spinal injuries.
A whopping 80% of American adults experience back pain sometime during their lives. Back pain is one of the most common – and most costly – ailments in our society. The cost of treating back problems, time lost from work, insurance, therapy and surgery runs into the billions of dollars every year.
How we can help.
When you have pain and immobility in the back and neck, you need help in regaining freedom of movement and freedom from pain. This is where we can help, by restoring a level of activity, strength, and motion to your back, neck and life.
Our physical therapists have over 40 years of combined experience. They use comprehensive hands-on techniques and proven modalities to treat back and neck pain caused by injury, illness and other conditions. They also treat you like family, because they understand the critical need for emotional support that is often necessary during the recovery period. By combining experienced care with a one-on-one patient focus, they can help you achieve better results.
During a thorough evaluation, your physical therapist will check your range of motion, flexibility, strength, posture and other points that may affect your pain experience then create a customized treatment program based on your pain complaints and your therapist’s findings. Some of the therapies they use are:
- Manual therapy – This specialized form of therapy is delivered by the hands of a skilled physical therapist instead of a device. Manual treatments include massage, soft-tissue mobilization, connective tissue techniques, myofascial release and mobilization of joints and surrounding tissues. The goal of manual physical therapy is to restore proper joint and muscle movement and to train surrounding muscles how to function properly to decrease pain, tension, spasms, or joint dysfunction.
- Spinal stabilization – This form of exercise is designed to strengthen your core muscles to support your spine and help prevent pain and future injury.
- Therapeutic exercise – Many patients benefit from using resistance machines, free weights, and other exercise equipment to encourage flexibility and strength.
POSTURAL EDUCATION – Specific exercises can teach your muscles how to work together properly, allowing you to sit, stand and walk longer – without pain.
ERGONOMICS & BODY MECHANICS – Patients learn how to relate better to their environments – at home, at work and while enjoying leisure activities – and how to move properly.
MODALITIES – Certain machines may also be used during the course of therapy. These are designed to provide pain relief, relieve pressure, or help injured muscle tissue:
- TENS & electrical muscle stimulation
- Mechanical traction
Because no two patients are the same, each patient’s specific treatment program may use one, two or several therapies to help relieve pain and add flexibility and movement to life. Please ask us for more information about treating back and neck pain with comprehensive physical therapy.
